A Bowling Green man is facing multiple alcohol and vehicle charges after two separate incidents in a two-hour time frame overnight Saturday.
The first incident was reported at 10:24 p.m. Saturday, when Bowling Green City police officers responded to a report of a vehicle driving all over the road.
Responding officers found and stopped Christopher Shifflett, 22, Derby Street, in the 300 block of West Wooster Street.
He was cited for wrong way down a one-way street; marked lanes, no seat belt, driving under suspension, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, and open container. Shifflett’s blood alcohol content during this stop reportedly was .244, more than three times the legal limit.
Less than two hours later, at 12:07 a.m. Sunday, a Bowling Green police officer on bicycle patrol in the area of Derby and Summit Streets reportedly saw Shifflett driving and recognized him from the earlier incident. Shifflett was stopped and reportedly told officers that he was “just trying to get home.”
He was arrested in the second incident for another count of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, prohibited concentration of alcohol (.215), defective exhaust, and two counts of driving under suspension. He was taken to the Wood County jail.

“Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed legislation allowing public school teachers to use “supplemental materials” in class when teaching about evolution. This is necessary, the new laws says, to promote “academic freedom.” After all, everyone knows evolution is “controversial.”
And here is an example of the “Supplemental Materials.” And no, this is not a joke.
“1. DVDs of “Flintstones” reruns. Kids can learn a lot from these. For example, they show how humans and dinosaurs not only lived together back in the day but also demonstrate early man’s ability to harness the power of dinosaurs to improve his own life. Fred Flinstone’s job at the rock quarry is a good example. Dinosaurs there helped him lift and smash rocks for the betterment of all.”
How I Got my iPhone for Free
Over the last couple of months, I’ve been asked several times how I got my iPhone for free. After telling the story in person and via email a few times, I thought I’d take a minute to spell it out here. Since the iPhone 3G comes out at the end of the week, some others may find this info helpful. I did it back it March and for my 8GB iPhone.
It’s quick, painless, and it works. Here’s how I did it.
I was an out of contract Sprint customer when I did this, but it works (so I’m told) for current AT&T customers as well
Step 1: Go to an internet re-seller like wirefly or letstalk.com and buy a free (out the door) smartphone. Preferably choose one wher you actually make money with the deal. These sites often have phones where you make $50 aftter the purchase. Before you decide on a phone, go to Ebay and/or Craigslist to research the resale value of these phones.
I chose a Samsung Blackjack II. It had good resale value and there’s a lot of info online regarding unlocking it. Unlocking wasn’t important to me, but, for a lot of people, it is. I was able to get the phone for free actually $.01 after instant rebates were applied. There was also a $50 mail-in rebate as well. At the time, I wasn’t sure that I would get the mail-in rebate, but since the phone was free in the first place, it didn’t really matter whether I got it or not.
Step 2: Buy the phone and sign up for the AT&T service plan. I signed up for the minimal plan, knowing that I would re-up with the iphone service plan. The instant rebates often require a certain level of service, so make sure that you meet those requirements to receive the offers. If you’re porting your number from another carrier, do that at the time you’re ordering the phone.
Step 3: Buy your new iPhone. I bought a refurb 8gb iPhone from AT&T for $249 ($270 with tax).
Step 4: List your “free” phone on Ebay or CL. My Blackjack arrived first. So, I photographed it and listed it on Ebay.
Step 5: Send in your rebate forms. As mentioned earlier, I had a mail-in rebate for $50. I sent in the rebate form, copy of the AT&T service agreement, bar code, etc. Make sure to keep copies of these for your records.
Step 6: Activate your iphone. When my iPhone arrived, I did the online actviation via iTunes. Since I was technically an AT&T customer at that point, I followed the prompts for exisiting customers. After a few minutes, my iphone was activated and matched with my ported telephone number. My existing AT&T contract did reset when I switched to the iPhone plan, but it was a matter of about three days.
Once my listing ended on Ebay, I cleared about $240 after shipping. About two months later, I received the $50 Visa Card in the mail. So, I ended up making about $20 on the deal.
